Epic Games acquires Sketchfab in a $100M+ M&A deal

We're delighted to congratulate the team at Sketchfab, who today announce their acquisition by Epic Games.

Balderton first invested in Sketchfab in late 2013, leading the companies seed round and I joined the board as part of that round.

Today, Sketchfab is the leading global platform for managing 3D assets. The platform makes it easy to discover, edit, buy, and sell 3D content directly through their web-based service and is home to 4 million 3D assets. Their technology has integrations across every major 3D creation tool and publishing platform and is compatible across all major browsers and operating systems, on both desktop and mobile.

By joining forces, Epic and Sketchfab will be able to make 3D, AR and VR content more accessible and grow the creator ecosystem, which are critical to an open and interconnected Metaverse.

The Sketchfab platform has become the global home for 3D assets, from the latest sneaker designs, to scans of international heritage sites, such as this incredible scan of the Monumental Arch of Palmyra, which we can now all enjoy in 3D. It's been an absolute joy to work with Alban, Cedric and the whole team whose passion and focus on making 3D assets available to all led the company to this success.
